Identical Cousins returns to the Crystal Ballroom \/ Somerville Theatre with a multimedia, omni-holiday spectacle celebrating the oeuvre<\/em> of the hilarious, fabulous, one-of-a-kind Catherine O\u2019Hara (1954-2026). Catherine O\u2019Hara Tribute: Home for the Holidays (all of them!)<\/em><\/strong> is a Crystal Ballroom evening both deeply reverential and delightfully irreverent, capping off a weekend screening all-time great films in her comedy canon.

The world lost this hothouse genius and high-wire fashionista<\/em> far too soon. We invite a cort\u00e8ge<\/em> of her adoring mourners to flock to this variety show-cum-<\/em>costume party, simply chockablock<\/em> with music, comedy, dancing, drag, puppets, and hilarity. It\u2019s impossible to imagine another Christmas, Halloween, or Purim without O\u2019Hara \u2014 so we decided to mainline an entire year of holidays with her in this Sunday 8\/23 ballroom extravaganza<\/strong>, to emotionally prepare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get habilimented <\/em>in your finest, high-camp-iest CO\u2019H drag. Category is: Delia Deetz realness, Lola Heatherton disco chic, the nosebleed heights of Moira Rose headgear, Sally\u2019s nightmare garb, or any classic character you can reimagine. We\u2019ll have a dance party break with Uncertain.FM \/ ex-Red Sox \/ ex-Patriots \/ current-Bruins DJ TJ Connolly<\/strong> before the entire audience is invited to attempt \u201cscene karaoke<\/strong>,\u201d where you do all the line readings \u2014 whether you\u2019d like to redecorate an L.L. Bean hellscape as Beetlejuice<\/em>\u2019s Delia and Otho, \u201cfold in the cheese\u201d in a Schitt\u2019s Creek <\/em>cozy cooking corner, or drunkenly broadcast intimate medical details across a Chinese restaurant as Waiting for Guffman<\/em>\u2019s Sheila Albertson.

The whole congregation is invited to sip Herb Ertlinger Fruit Wine-inspired signature cocktails, and inhabit an old-timey sexy xmas special with comedy host Keira Horowitz<\/strong>, bewigged chanteuses <\/em>Noell Dorsey<\/strong> and <\/em>Hayley Thompson-King<\/strong>, seasoned jinglers Cotton Candy<\/strong> (Unrest\/Flin Flon\u2019s Mark Robinson<\/strong> and Blast Off Country Style\/Frissons\u2019 Evelyn Hurley<\/strong>), and middle-aged men helper-dancers. One Very Special Guest will be drag burlesque artist Celia Smokinbutts<\/strong> as avant-garde sculptor \/ unwilling city transplant Delia Deetznbuttz. And everyone will sing along to a touching \u201cKiss at the End of the Rainbow\u201d with an all-star band: Red Sox organist Josh Kantor<\/strong>, Somergloom \/ SEA\u2019s Stephen LoVerme<\/strong>, BUFF \/ Lobby Guac’s George Luke<\/strong>, Julee Cruise Director\u2019s Slamz Slusser<\/strong> and Identical Cousins<\/strong> Emily Arkin & Bridget Duggan before we all pop Christmas pills with 8 minutes to safely stumble to the door. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The variety show serves as the grand finale to a weekend-long mini-film festival in 35mm<\/strong> at the Somerville Theatre. Experience O’Hara’s most iconic turns on the big screen, like her trio of unforgettable characters from the holy trinity of Christopher Guest mockumentaries and an unhinged Mister Softee driver in Scorsese\u2019s up-all-night picaresque<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
